As we all struggle to safely find our way in the midst of the Corona-virus, I find myself thinking often of James, a handsome, bright, hard-working young man who has been a part of our family since he was in middle school. With an inspiring amount of tenacity and down-right stubbornness, James recently graduated from the DC Fire Academy and has started work in the DC Fire Department as a fire fighter and EMT. This has been his dream since before we knew him, and I can’t tell you how proud we are of him.
Especially now, because James is now on the front line of the battle against COVID-19. He has stepped into his new role with admirable grace and courage. And I can’t think of a better person to show up at the door of people who are sick and frightened. He is not only competent, he is kind and compassionate. And I know he is one of tens of thousands of first responders who are taking risks every day to keep us all safe and healthy. We are grateful for James and for all his comrades.
